Thank you all for attending the 2nd edition of Disaster Risk Reduction Conference in Warsaw, 2015 (DRR 2015). The DRR 2015 became a true success thanks to the support of our speakers, attendees, and poster designers!

We would like to officially invite participation in the 2nd Conference “Disaster Risk Reduction” in Warsaw, October 15-16, 2015, which is jointly organized by the Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies of the University of Warsaw and the Department of Safety and Crisis Management of the Masovian Voivodeship Office.  Participation is open to scholars at all levels from academia, governments, non-governmental organizations, and to practitioners from public and private organizations.  A special student poster session will be held as well.

Because of the wide interest in the conference, the deadline conference registration and fee, and abstract for poster sending for the DRR Conference in Warsaw, 2015 has been extended to August, 31st.

Our first conference “For the Society – Disasters Risk Reduction” held on February 24, 2014, brought together 112 scientists, representatives of governmental institutions, and students. The first symposium was the largest and most important natural disasters risk reduction meeting performed ever held in Poland and generated tremendous interest. The conference aimed to facilitate the exchange of research results and expert observations between the scientific community, the government, practitioners, and non-government organizations toward efforts to minimize the impacts of natural hazards and to develop social awareness of environmental risks.

We invite participants to make oral presentations or to display posters on the following issues at the second conference: extreme natural phenomena in the changing environment, natural disaster risk management, social and economic aspects of natural disasters, reduction of natural disaster impacts in local and regional settings, the roles of the state and civic responsibility, and the genesis of natural disasters from natural hazards.  The conference is the ideal setting and a great opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to present their research in a professional setting to the scholarly and professional communities.

Students (B.S., M.S., and Ph.D.) are invited to submit abstracts for posters that will demonstrate the results of their research activities. The poster session is planned to be one of the highlights of the DRR Conference. The poster session will include research on any of the key areas of natural disaster risk management: for example, social and economic aspects of natural disasters, reduction of the effects of extreme events in local and regional contexts, and the role of the state and civic responsibility in hazard management. The best three research posters will be selected by Scientific Committee based on the ratings of attendees of the DRR 2015 Conference. The authors of the winning poster contribution will be honored by the DRR conference organizers.

Abstracts of papers and posters should be submitted on-line at www.drr.uw.edu.pl.  Abstracts for presentations or posters should be submitted before April 30, 2015.  The deadline for early registration with reduced conference fee is May 31, 2015.

Questions should be directed to us via e-mail: drr@uw.edu.pl .

We sincerely invite you to Warsaw, Poland for the Second International Conference on Natural Disaster Risk Reduction.
